In Focus on Meth 2025, ADAI’s Center for Community-Engaged Drug Education, Epidemiology, & Research (CEDEER) will be looking at methamphetamine use in Washington State through the lenses of harm reduction, clinical care, and real-world research.

People who use methamphetamine are at higher risk for acquiring infectious diseases like HIV, hepatitis C, syphilis, and others. Of special concern is the current increase in syphilis cases, especially during pregnancy.

In this session from CEDEER, held on March 27, 2025, attendees heard from two providers who work in different settings: a syringe services program and a sexual health clinic.

The webinar covered:

  • Basics of HIV, hepatitis C, syphilis, and other infectious diseases
  • Why people who use meth are at higher risk for these conditions
  • Strategies to engage people who use meth in prevention, testing, and treatment

Presenters: Dr. Tim Menza, Medical Director, Public Health–Seattle & King County Sexual Health Clinic Melissa Cross, RN, Blue Mountain Heart to Heart
