ADAI Assistant Professor Mandy Owens Named to UW Research Impacts Advocates Cohort
01/13/2026
Mandy Owens, PhD, an assistant professor with ADAI in the UW Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, has been selected to join the inaugural Research Impact Advocates cohort organized by the UW Office of Research.
Dr. Owens’ work aims to improve services for people who use alcohol and drugs with a focus on those involved with the criminal legal system. She is also an attending psychologist at the University of Washington Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic, where she specializes in the treatment of substance use disorders and supports family members of individuals with substance use concerns using a Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) approach.
The Research Impact Advocates program runs from December 2025 through October 2026 and is designed to help faculty build skills and connections to engage public audiences about research evidence and its impact.
Participants will take part in training sessions on op-ed writing, science communication, and media engagement, as well as mentorship opportunities with experienced colleagues. Each advocate will also complete at least two public engagement activities during the year.
Congratulations, Dr. Owens! We look forward to learning from you as you go!
