10/16/2019

To address the opioid epidemic, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) launched the HEAL Initiative to support research aimed at helping people with opioid addiction, and exploring safer treatment options for chronic pain. The University of Washington School of Medicine has received multiple awards totaling about $40 million.

Included in the HEAL research funding are Drs. Dennis Donovan and Mary Hatch-Maillette from ADAI, principal investigators of the Pacific Northwest Node of NIDA’s Clinical Trials Network. Within the Pacific NW Node, several projects are ongoing or in development, with funding of about $4.5 million.
