New DOH Resource: How to Use Insurance to Get Naloxone at WA State Pharmacies

09/06/2024

Naloxone is a medication that can reverse an opioid overdose and save someone’s life. It’s available as both a prescription product and over-the-counter.

Health coverage plans/health insurance can help cover the cost of naloxone bought at a pharmacy. You can make this type of purchase using either a prescription from your doctor or the Statewide Standing Order to Dispense Naloxone.

The Washington Department of Health has created a new factsheet intended to help people navigate this process. It provides instructions for people who have Apple Health (WA State Medicaid), PEBB/SEBB health insurance, or other health coverage, and also includes information on how to get naloxone if you don’t have health insurance at all.
