Substance use and service needs are complicated and dynamic. The past few years have seen stunning increases in use, morbidity, and mortality associated with non-pharmaceutical stimulants and opioids. The old lines between addiction treatment, health care, and harm reduction are beginning to fade.
In this session, Dr. Banta-Green provided an overview of the new Center for Community-Engaged Drug Education, Epidemiology & Research (CEDEER) housed within the Addictions, Drug and Alcohol Institute (ADAI). This center is expanding how it incorporates new types of information, including the voices and perspectives of people who use drugs, to inform the rapid development and testing of impactful interventions.
About the presenter
Dr. Banta-Green is the director of CEDEER and a Research Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He is affiliate faculty in Epidemiology and Health Systems and Population Health in the School of Public Health. He has spent most of his career at the UW working to support the health of people who use drugs. He is one of the executive sponsors of WA State’s Opioid Overdose Response Plan and is on the HHS Interdepartmental Substance Use Disorder Coordinating Committee.
