Monday, August 31, is International Overdose Awareness Day, a day to remember those we’ve lost to overdose. The goal of this day is to raise awareness of overdose deaths, and increase understanding of how to respond to overdose at an individual and community level.

Washington State Overdose Awareness Day Proclamation
Read the Washington State Proclamation written by Tony Walton from the Washington Health Care Authority (HCA), with support and input from colleagues at the HCA, the Department of Health, ADAI and many others.
This proclamation helps raise awareness of the continued and widespread impact of overdose deaths on Washington communities.
International Overdose Awareness Day Resources
There are several ways to participate in the campaign, including:
- Post a tribute to a loved one who has passed away from an overdose
- Using #OverdoseAware or #EndOverdose on social media
- A support kit for organizing a community event or activity
- Download resources like fact sheets, graphics, and more

WA State Department of Health Overdose Education and Naloxone Distribution
The Overdose Education and Naloxone Distribution Program provides free overdose response training, technical assistance, and naloxone kits to qualifying organizations in the state interested in addressing our current overdose problem.

The Poison Center is hosting a series of webinars the week of August 31st about overdose. Topics will includes opioids & opiates, Narcan, safe storage, drug economics, and more. Find information and links to register here.

- Brochure on signs and symptoms, steps to respond
- Poster and palm card to increase awareness that methamphetamine deaths are increasing in Washington
