Methamphetamine & Stimulant-Focused Virtual Events at ADAI (May & June 2025)
05/08/2025Deaths from methamphetamine have been rising over the past decade, with most counties in Washington State seeing significant increases.
Small counties like Okanogan and Pend Oreille went from well below the state average to well above, while larger counties like Snohomish, King, Pierce, and Spokane saw methamphetamine poisoning rates increase by 10-fold or more. (Data from our Washington State Opioid/Major Drug Interactive Data site.)

To help address this important public health issue, multiple teams at ADAI are hosting a range of (virtual) educational events in the coming months focused on methamphetamine and other stimulant use. Check out the list below and sign up for any you’re interested in attending! All are welcome!

Focus on Meth Virtual Symposium (CEDEER)

The ADAI Center for Community-Engaged Drug Education, Epidemiology and Research (CEDEER) has been hosting a Focus on Meth series this spring, featuring several 1-hour webinars on a range of meth-related topics and a collection of related resources.
On June 12, 2025 (9am-3:30pm PT), the series ends with a day-long virtual symposium focused on the scope and impact of methamphetamine use in Washington State and ways to best support people across a spectrum of health care, harm reduction, and treatment needs.
The symposium will blend data and education on treatment medications and interventions with real-world perspectives on harm reduction and recovery from people with lived experience of meth use.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation in the Treatment of Stimulant Use Disorder (Northwest ATTC)

11:00am – 12:30pm PT
Presented by Kathleen T. Brady, MD, PhD (Medical University of South Carolina)
CME / CE credits available for all attendees of this session!
In this webinar, Dr. Brady will talk about the NIDA Clinical Trials Network (CTN) study CTN-0108, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation for the Treatment of Methamphetamine/Cocaine Use Disorder, a pilot study that aims to determine the feasibility, effectiveness, and safety for 20 sessions of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) versus sham in adults with a diagnosed methamphetamine or cocaine use disorder.
Dr. Brady, co-PI for CTN-0108, will present the rationale for the study, including the literature supporting the use of rTMS in stimulant use disorder, as well as the study methodology and preliminary results.
