ADAI Summer Internship Program
NOTE: THE APPLICATION PROCESS FOR SUMMER 2026 IS NOW CLOSED.
ADAI is launching a new summer internship program for University of Washington undergraduates interested in working in substance use/addictions, public health, science/health communications, and related fields!
Summer quarter 2026: June 22 – August 14 (8 weeks)
Schedule: 4 days per week (Mon-Thurs)
Hybrid: Remote with some in-person events (in/near Seattle, WA)
Stipend: Approximately $5290 (for 100% FTE)
Deadline for applications: APPLICATIONS CLOSED.
IMPORTANT: You must be a UW undergraduate who will be actively enrolled during summer 2026 to be considered for this program (you don’t have to be taking classes summer quarter). No exceptions will be granted to this requirement! Preference will be given to UW undergraduates entering their junior or senior year in the fall of 2026.
This internship program is designed to help UW undergraduates gain project-based real-world experience and learn about substance use research, policy, and practice.
The projects will also give interns an opportunity to connect with UW faculty and staff and visit community partners working in a variety of settings.
The majority of the work will be performed remotely, with some in-person field trips (in/near Seattle, WA).

Our first cohort (summer 2026) will be invited to participate in projects with the:
- ADAI Information Services team: Research, plan, implement, and evaluate a multi-faceted educational campaign to reduce stigma against people who use drugs.
- Cannabis Education & Research Program (CERP): Work with the CERP team to prepare for their next Cannabis Research Symposium (fall 2026). Check out our 2022 Symposium recordings to see what this event looks like!
- Center for Community-Engaged Drug Education, Epidemiology & Research (CEDEER): Assist the CEDEER team with communications and find new, creative dissemination approaches.
APPLICATIONS ARE NO LONGER BEING ACCEPTED FOR SUMMER 2026
Applications for the Summer 2027 cohort will open in December 2026.
